Poseidonion in Spetses

Poseidon hotel is located next to the harbor and prides itself as the gem of Spetses. Built in 1914 by the national benefactor Sotirios Anargyros, it was a key pillar in the island's development plans, along with Anargyrios and Korgilanios School. Its creation was based on designs by the architect Panagiotis Zizilas, which were inspired by respective hotels cosmopolitan Côte d'Azur.

Posidonio in its heyday was the largest and most impressive hotel in the province and hosted many foreign distinguished guests as well as leading figures of Greece, like Eleftherios Venizelos.
Today Poseidonio is fully renovated, inviting the visitor to admire its exterior and, if he can afford to, enjoy its hospitality.

The church of Panagia Armata lies over the Old Port on the headland of the Lighthouse. It was built by Ionnis Koutsis in honor of the Virgin and in commemoration of the great victory of Spetses over the Turkish fleet in 1822. It is celebrated to this day every September (the famous festival of Armata). The church was built where canons defending the island of Spetses used to be during the revolution, and in its courtyard a statue of Kosmas Barbatsis, the one to set Armata on fire, was placed (work of the famous sculptor Natalia Mela).
Lighthouse (Faros)

The famous lighthouse of Spetses is above the Old Harbor. In 1837 the first lighthouse opened in Spetses. It functioned using oil, but it no more exists. The current lighthouse opened in 1885, having a height of 11 meters. The lighthouse of Spetses differs from most lighthouses in Greece, being situated in a residential area. Untill 1986 that it became fully automated, it had a lighthouse keeper. The position of the lighthouse and the building itself is a very good reason for a pleasant walk.

The Anargirios & Korgialenios School is situated just outside the city of Spetses, approximately 2 km from Dapia. Founded by national benefactors Sotirios Anargyros and Marino Korgialeni, it consists of five huge and several supplementing buildings that are located in an area of one thousand acres. The buildings' architecture has been directly influenced by the corresponding English Schools and impresses even today.

In the wider area of the school, there is the football stadium of Spetses, as well as an open-air, ancient type theater with a capacity of 1000 spectators that hosts various events.

The school's opening took place in 1927 by Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos and its first director was the Englishman Eric Sloman. The school was a public school model and a boarding school with many distinguished alumni, including Greek Prime Minister Georgios Rallis. The operation of the school stopped in 1983 and now houses, among others, a department of the University of Piraeus and the High school of Spetses.
