The famous Drakospita-Dragon Houses are in Euboea(Evia).
The Dragon Houses are impressive megalithic buildings that are found in various parts of Evia, mostly mountainous. They are made of slate, placed one upon another without binders, forming a striking property in size. The Dragon Houses are located in rocky points with panoramic views of the area.
Little is known about the construction time and the use of Drakospita. Indeed, people call them Drakospita-Dragon Houses, thinking that in these buildings mythical giants-dragons lived, while dozens of folk legends are connected with Dragons and the Dragon Houses. Drakospita could have possibly been used as ancient temples, prisons, shelters or warehouses.
The largest and best preserved Drakospito is the one at the peak of Mount Ochi, with dimensions 12.4 by 7.6 meters. This Dragon House-Drakospito also features windows, while the excavations conducted in the area revealed objects dating back to the Classic and the Roman times.
Apart from the top of Ochi, Drakospita exist in Styra and Dirfi.
