Kokino Kastro or otherwise Castello Rosso is situated in Karystos.

The Red Castle or Kokinokastro owes its name to the stones with which it was built that give it a reddish tint. The castle is built on a hill about four kilometers from Karystos, in a location allowing it to supervise the whole region.

The first fort was built at the point in the 11th century by the Byzantines, while it gained its final form thanks to the Lombards in the 13th century.

Today, visitors can admire the impressive walls or take a close look at the ruins of the castle buildings and the church of Prophet Elias, while enjoying the breathtaking views of the area.
