National Historical Museum in Athens

The National Historical Museum, housed in the Old Parliament building, is only few meters from Syntagma Square, at Stadiou Street. The building was founded in 1858, where originally the House and the Senate was housed. With the relocation of the House in its current space (Hall of the Greek Parliament), the building is reserved to house the National History Museum which starts operating here in 1960.

The National Historical Museum has rich collections that illuminate the major tenets of Greek history, from the fall of Constantinople until the Second World War.

Through documents, photographs, paintings, flags, weapons and personal items of historical figures, the visitor has a chanceto get an insight into the course of Hellenism from 1453 until 1940.
