Zoodochos Pigi Monastery in Sikinos

Zoodochos Pigi Monastery in Sikinos

The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi is situated in Chora, in Sikinos.

It was establisehd in 1690. The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi is perched on a rock at a pretty inaccessible point. Its location combined with its fortification, made the monastery a retreat for the islands' inhabitants during pirate raids.

Inside the monastery you will find the church of Zoodochos Pigi, the typical white traditional Cycladic church. The monastery operated until 1834 hosting nuns, but their small number allowed King Otto to order its closing.

Today the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi is one of the most beautiful sights on the island. It is worth visiting to admire the church and the rest buildings of the monastery. But the main reason is the panoramic view of the island and the entire Aegean. In fact, if you come here the right time, you will enjoy one of the best sunsets of your holidays.
