Ftelia beach in Mykonos

Published in Leisure + Recreation

A northern beach with azure waters and sand. It is located in Panormos cove, 5 km from Chora. When its windy, this is an ideal destination for windsurfing enthusiasts, as Ftelia is a typical windswept beach, where windsurfing contests are being organized. The seashore is divided in two by a rock, upon which findings of a neolithic settlement dating back to 4.500 BC, have been discovered.

According to some, here lies Aias Lokros' grave, who was a mythical hero of Homer's Iliad. Ftelia is an extraordinary beach that you should by no means forget to visit with your own car.

Platis Gialos beach is situated in the southern part of the island, 4.5 km from Mykonos' Chora, in the namesake village. Being another highly organized beach with golden sand and crystal waters, Platis Gialos beach is an excellent choice for a great swim as well as water sports.

Nearby you will find remnants of worth visiting towers of the Hellenistic era, the renowned Portes(Doors).

You can reach Platis Gialos with your own car or with a bus, while it is also the starting point for the boats that will take you to the beaches of Paraga, Paradise (Kalamopodi), Super Paradise (Plintri), Agrari and Elia.

Paradise beach may have no 'super' added in its name, but all its features are absolutely super. In a distance of 5,5 km from Chora you will find a highly organized beach that combines swimming and entertainment in a unique way, as here is also the legendary Cavo Paradiso. If you feel like it, you have the chance to take diving lessons. You need no further motivation to visit Paradise beach (otherwise known as Kalamopodi). It is itself a motive and a must-see. You can reach Paradise beach either with your own vehicle, a bus or a traditional greek small boat(kaiki).

Paraga beach in Mykonos

Paraga beach is in the southern part of Mykonos' Chora, just 5km away from it. Being sheltered from the northern winds, it has clean waters and is organized with parasols and loungers. In the area there is also a camping, for those seeking this type of vacation. Thanks to its marvelous view towards Naxos, Paros and Delos, Paraga beach is an ideal choice to enjoy swimming under a very special sunset. You can reach Paraga either with your own vehicle, a bus or a traditional greek small boat(kaiki).

Ornos beach in Mykonos

Published in Leisure + Recreation

The amazing beach of Ornos is 2 km southwest of Mykonos' town, next to the namesake village that is also worth visiting. With its picturesque and sheltered harbor, where small boats find shelter until their next trip, Ornos is a safe anchorage for yachts. Nearby, you will find a wonderful and clean "family" beach to enjoy swimming. Its big advantage is that it is quite sheltered from the severe north winds. However, if you love water sports you can..skyrocket to the nearby Psarou beach. Besides, Ornos is the starting point for all the small ships that reach the south beaches of the island. You can reach Ornos either with your own vehicle or with a bus.

Super Paradise (or Plidri) is probably the most worldwide famous beach of the island. There is hardly any chance to meet someone that has visited Mykonos and has not passed through Super Paradise. Unrepeatable parties established in the '50s turned Super Paradise into a ''must'' destination for all those who are or feel young ... and uninhibited. Lots of people, loads of fun, eccentric outfits… A favorite destination for the world's VIP's, Super Paradise is the meeting point where celebrities and "anonymous " become one and party as one... endlessly. Among others, Super Paradise is known as a nudist beach and here you will also find the renown Super Paradise Club. It goes without mention that besides all these, Super Paradise has wonderful soft sand and clear blue waters. Access from land is not that simple (distance from Chora- 7 km), so it would be better to reach it by sea, in a traditional boat (kaiki) from Platis Gialos. Super Paradise, a beach you have to visit no matter what.

Megali Ammos is a few minutes walk on foot from Chora. Exposed to the north winds, it may not be the ideal swim choice (depending on your taste of course), but it might be a good case for windsurf enthusiasts and wind-involving sports. Its seabed is characteristic for a huge slab that exists along the beach, making it an attractive destination for those keen on underwater activities.

Lia beach in Mykonos

Published in Leisure + Recreation

The Lia beach is often mistaken for the very cosmopolitan beach of Elia, something pretty normal if you consider that they are only an 'e' away. In sharp contrast to it however, Lia is a serene beach 14 km from Chora, where you can chill out in its crystal-clear emerald waters. It is the last beach of the southeastern point of the island where you can go by car.

Korfos beach in Mykonos

Published in Leisure + Recreation

If there is a beach tailored to those who love windsurfing, this is Korfos. It is located right before Ornos in a 2,5km distance from Chora. Its specialty lies exactly in its location,as it is situated in the most windswept spot where the ferocious North wind blows incessantly.

The combination of the strong but stable winds and the shallow waters, favor the creation of waves; priceless for any windsurfer. All in all: windsurfing=Korfos. The beach features a boat-slip and enough space for parking.

Kapari beach is ideal for those seeking quietness. Kapari, overlooking the sacred island of Delos, is being one of the few pristine beaches in Mykonos that gives you the chance to a serene swim amidst the constant partying. Even though it is just 5km from Chora, its difficult access (rutty road and walking to the beach) ensured that Kapari will always probably be the most unspoiled beach of Mykonos. For he who delights in pure nature, Kapari is the top choice.
