Paros is an island that takes great care to preserve the old customs and traditions, while introducing them to visitors.
Easter in Paros is a very special experience. On Good Friday people gather in Marpissa to admire the impressive representation of the Passion of Christ. Similar representations also take place in other parts of the island such as Aspro Chorio(White Village), while the Resurrection of Christ with the fascinating fireworks and the Easter table create a must-lived experience.
In Paros several festivals and celebrations are organized, having mainly religious nature, including:
- June 23, Festival of Klidonas in Naoussa, Alyki and Prodromos
- August 6, Feast of the Saviour in Marpissa and Alyki
- August 15, Feast of Panagia Ekatontapiliani (the biggest celebration throughout Paros)
- August 28 &29, Feast of Agios Ioannis in the namesake monastery
- September 14, The True Cross in Agairia
Note that a very special festival takes place on August 23 in Naoussa, the famous Pirate Festival. A representation of the fights with pirate Barbarossa takes place on the island, accompanied by various cultural events and high jinks. Another interesting event is the Wine and Fish Festival that takes place in July in Naoussa, as well as the (mobile) celebration of Karavolas in Lefkes which marks the end of summer.
